Tennis Canada on Friday named KELLY MURUMETS President & CEO. She succeeds MICHAEL DOWNEY, who left Tennis Canada in December after nearly 10 years. Murumets had previously worked as President & CEO of ParticipACTION, the Canadian voice of physical activity and sport participation, since '07 (Tennis Canada). The CP's Bill Beacon noted Murumets hopes to "use the growing popularity of tennis to get more people playing at the local courts and to develop more MILOS RAONICs and EUGENIE BOUCHARDs." Murumets said, "We have experienced unbelievable success in the last number of months and years." She added, "There is no more exciting time for tennis in Canada than right now." Beacon noted a search committee "found Murumets." She has "no specific projects in mind, but will spend her first weeks learning about the organization and seeing what can be done." Murumets will "officially begin her new position on March 3" (CP, 1/24). YAHOO SPORTS CANADA's Stephanie Myles wrote for "whatever reason, Tennis Canada chose to hold the press conference" to introduce Murumets in Montreal. This "couldn't help but underscore the fact that she speaks no French," however she reportedly is "enrolling in French classes." Word is that Murumets "made a great first impression on the Montreal employees with her enthousiasm and people skills" (CA.SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 1/25).
