Sherman Expected To Play Prominent Role On Super Bowl XLVIII Pregame Shows

Greg Jewell, the Coordinating Producer for ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown," predicted that Seahawks CB Richard Sherman would play a part in the network's coverage early during Super Bowl week before giving way to discussions of Broncos QB Peyton Manning's legacy and weather reports. Jewell said, "Coming in, you would think that the Manning legacy would be the first storyline, but Richard Sherman has put himself out there. We'll really see what happens with him on Tuesday and Wednesday, whether he dials it back. I don't expect that he'll dial it back at all." Jewell: "While it was a big deal this past week, it's not new with him. I don't think anybody's going to dial him back. He's the front side of the week coverage. Then, obviously, the Manning legacy becomes the big part of the back end of the week. And weather, of course." During next Sunday's pregame show, Frank Caliendo is planning to do a mock "30-for-30" on how Sherman's postgame interviews have propelled him to the presidency, Jewell said. The spot will feature Caliendo impressions of Patriots coach Bill Belichick as well as ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Ditka (John Ourand, Staff Writer). Meanwhile, Fox Sports Senior VP/Media Relations Lou D'Ermilio indicated that Sherman will be "featured in a piece about the tough Seattle defense" during the net's Super Bowl pregame show. He also will be "interviewed again" by Erin Andrews, who conducted the now-infamous NFL Championship postgame interview (ADAGE.com, 1/23).
