Life Time Fitness Purchases Miami Marathon, Other US Road Sports Races

Life Time Fitness on Friday "acquired ownership" of the Miami Marathon and the other events previously owned by US Road Sports & Entertainment Group, according to Susan Miller Degnan of the MIAMI HERALD. Life Time VP/Corporate Communications & PR Jason Thunstrom said that the purchase price "will not be made public." The Miami Marathon is "considered the crown jewel of US Road Sports." Life Time VP/Athletic Events Kimo Seymour and Miami Marathon co-Founder & Chief Running Officer Frankie Ruiz said that the event "will go on as usual with the same staff." With the "added resources" of a new owner that generates $1.2B in annual revenue, the marathon is "expected to secure a title sponsor" for the '15 event. The Miami Marathon from '06-13 had ING as its title sponsor until the financial institution "stopped doing business in North America and pulled out of all its road-running sponsorships." Seymour said Life Time has "a number of sponsors already very interested" in partnering with the Miami Marathon. Life Time along with the Miami Marathon has "taken over" the Palm Beaches Marathon, Salt Lake City Marathon, Georgia Marathon, New Jersey Marathon, the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon, Baptist Health South Florida Turkey Trot as well as several half marathons around the country, including in Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, all of which US Road Sports "also produced" (MIAMI HERALD, 1/21).
