Media Notes

In St. Louis, David Nicklaus notes the relaunch of social media outfit LockerDome is "a bold move for a startup that had generated considerable buzz -- and lined up some advertising partners -- around the sports-centric model." LockerDome co-Founder & CEO Gabe Lozano said that the site "isn’t turning its back on sports; it’s merely adding other types of content." He said the transformation is "an aggressive bet on the evolution of social media from friends to interests." Univ. of Missouri-St. Louis assistant digital marketing professor Perry Drake said of the redesign, "It’s like Pinterest on steroids." Nicklaus notes Pinterest’s audience "is largely female, while LockerDome’s sports-fan base is 80 percent male." Drake said that if the new site "works the way it’s supposed to ... LockerDome could pry some users away from Pinterest" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 12/10).

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! BROADCASTING & CABLE's Tim Baysinger noted Legendary Entertainment, owned by Steelers investor Thomas Tull, has "acquired production company Asylum Entertainment." Asylum is "primarily known for its sports documentaries," such as Fox' "Beyond the Glory" series and ESPN's "30 for 30" franchise. Asylum currently is in production on "Happy Valley," which "focuses on the sexual abuse scandal that recently rocked Penn State University and its football program" (BROADCASTINGCABLE.com, 12/9).

PEOPLE & PERSONALITIES: In Philadelphia, Molly Eichel noted WIP-AM host Glen Macnow "just left his afternoon hosting stint along with Anthony Gargano, citing a contract dispute for his early departure." Macnow's contract "is up at the end of the year and he's currently in negotiations" (PHILLY.com, 12/9)....SI.com's Richard Deitsch noted longtime ESPN anchor Michael Kim is "leaving the network for 120 Sports" for a spot with the White Sox' Silver Chalice Ventures. Kim will be an "anchor/host for the upcoming 120 Sports and move to Chicago" (SI.com, 12/8).
