Steinberg Jumps Back Into Agent Fray As Window To Start Signing Players Opens

Steinberg Sports & Entertainment CEO LEIGH STEINBERG is "back in business" as of Saturday, as he has been re-certified to represent players in the NFL and NBA, according to Al Saracevic of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Most of Steinberg's "money is gone, lost in divorce, lawsuits and poor business decisions," but that is not keeping Steinberg from "wanting it all back." Steinberg said of his finances, "I probably made $100 million. I don't know, maybe more. And I didn't lose all my money. But I got divorced. And I spent millions on an antiracism program that hurt me. A lot of it went into charity. A lot of it was lost in the Internet crash in 2000. As the dot-com stocks kept going down, my financial planner didn't want to sell for a loss. And they kept going down." He added, "I'm rebuilding. But that was never the value I was raised with. My father, to the bitter end, only cared if I treated my family well and made a difference in the world. We've started this new business, Steinberg Sports & Entertainment. We're certified with the NFLPA and the National Basketball Association. And I have a book coming out in January. It will be called 'THE AGENT: MY 40-YEAR CAREER MAKING DEALS AND CHANGING THE GAME'" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/24).
