All MLB Teams Will Screen Fans Entering Ballparks Starting Next Season

MLB Security Dir John Skinner on Friday said that all 30 teams are "expected to screen all fans entering their ballparks next season," with some aspects of the screening set to "be left to individual teams," according to Jimmy Golen of the AP. Skinner: "It's the reality, unfortunately, of this world. Ultimately, it will happen." He said that MLB "will be making a presentation to its teams at the winter meetings in December in Lake Buena Vista, Fla." MLB Senior Dir of Media Relations Michael Teevan when asked for more details said that the plans "are still developing" (AP, 11/22). Skinner, speaking on a sports symposium panel at Harvard titled "Preparing for the Worst: Crisis Management," suggested that while "some aspects of screening will be left up to the teams, the commissioner’s office plans to recommend walk-through metal detectors next season." Teevan: "No decisions have been finalized at this time" (Baltimore SUN, 11/23).
