San Diego Ballpark Village Moving Forward, With Completion Now Set For '17

A design committee from city-owned non-profit Civic San Diego "approved a revised plan for Ballpark Village," a $250M mixed-use project east of Petco Park, which "is due for completion in mid-2017, under the present schedule," according to Roger Showley of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The project would "cover 3.5 acres with 617 dwelling units in both mid-rise and high-rise units -- 318 condos, 272 apartments and 27 affordable rentals." Also planned is "55,357 square feet of retail space and a large public plaza facing Petco Park’s east entrance and an edge opposite the new Central Library." JMI Realty Senior VP/Construction James Chatfield said that the adjacent land fronting Harbor Drive "could contain 1,500 hotel rooms or residences, depending on how the expansion proceeds on the San Diego Convention Center and possible construction of a new Chargers stadium to the east" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 11/21).
