College Facility Notes: Tulane's New Stadium Taking Its "Final Shape"

In New Orleans, Tammy Nunez reports less than a year before the scheduled opening of Tulane Univ.'s new Yulman Stadium, the project details "are taking a more final shape." Tulane AD Rick Dickson said, "We just arrived this past month, I guess it was September, at our guaranteed maximum price, which was $63.5 million -- that’s just the construction. That puts our overall price in the $72, $73 million range." Dickson added that the facility has "a capacity of approximately 30,000 and the university is about $20 million away from completing its fundraising" (New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE, 10/18).

NOBLE SENTIMENTS: In Mississippi, Michael Bonner reported the Mississippi State Univ. athletic department met this week "to harvest suggestions from those who use the MSU baseball team’s ballpark the most -- its fans." MSU AD Scott Stricklin "introduced the four architects" from Jackson-based Weir Boerner for the renovation of Dudy Noble Field. Help also will "be sought from" Dodgers Senior VP/Planning & Development Janet Marie Smith, an MSU graduate, who is "currently updating Dodger Stadium and aided in renovating Fenway Park." The meeting "broke down the renovation into five different categories: Arrival, Watching the Game, Amenities, Left Field Lounge and General experience." Parking and the Left Field Lounge "drew the most responses" (Jackson CLARION-LEDGER, 10/16).

PACK MENTALITY: North Carolina State Univ.'s Wolfpack Club Exec Dir Bobby Purcell said that the group is "in the 'silent phase' of fundraising right now" to reach $14M for a proposed indoor training facility at the school. Purcell added "things are going well" with the campaign, which started July 1 (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/17).
