Franchise Notes

In N.Y., John Harper notes Met VP/Media Relations Jay Horwitz "made a stealth trip to the West Coast on Monday" to prep rookie P Zack Wheeler on the "do's and don'ts of dealing with the big, bad, New York Media" before making his tentative MLB debut later this month. Horwitz met with Wheeler for 30 minutes, "essentially reassuring him the Mets organization will do everything it can to ease him into the spotlight that awaits in New York." Horwitz said, "I know it sounds kind of crazy, but I thought it was important to sit down face-to-face with Zack and talk about some things, especially as high as the expectations will be for him" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/7).

KIND OF BLUE: In Philadelphia, Lyn Kremer noted the 76ers' home uniform "has always been white, while on the road the team wore red, with blue as an alternate." But 76ers CEO Adam Aron said that from this point forward, "blue is going to be the official road shirt, with red as the alternate" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/5).

ALL THE WORLD IS GREEN: In Dallas, Rick Gosselin weighed in on the Stars' new uniforms, "I like the green. I didn't like the logo. I think too many teams have gone to the black, the white, the grey and the silver. I think it's good to get back to the green. The logo is too plain. I actually liked the star that they had in the old one in the state of Texas. It looks too plain to me" (DALLASNEWS.com, 6/6).

HEY, MR. BROWN: In Akron, Marla Ridenour writes there has been "much to like" about the Browns this spring, but the federal investigation into Owner Jimmy Haslam III's trucking company Pilot Flying J is "still an elephant in the fieldhouse." Haslam "did not attend practice Thursday, but he and his father, Jim, were on the field" for Wednesday's drills, and the "strain on Haslam seemed noticeable" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 6/7).
