Yankees GM Brian Cashman Breaks Leg Skydiving For Wounded Warrior Project

Yankees GM BRIAN CASHMAN "underwent successful surgery" yesterday after he "broke his right fibula and dislocated his right ankle on his second parachute jump" during a charity function with the U.S. Army Golden Knights, according to John Harper of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Cashman’s jump near Homestead Air Force Base in Florida is the "latest in several stunts he has performed to raise awareness for various causes, this one in support of the Wounded Warrior Project" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/5). In N.Y., David Waldstein notes the "jump itself was not the problem." Cashman "enjoyed it so much the first time that he went back for a second jump." It was the "landing of that jump that was the problem." With so many Yankees veterans in "various stages of rehabilitation, perhaps it is only fitting that their veteran general manager should be felled by infirmity, too" (N.Y. TIMES, 3/5). The DAILY NEWS' Harper writes, "As if the Yankees don't have enough injury problems." Cashman "caught his foot on the ground as they landed." He said, "I heard a pop in my ankle." Cashman before leaving for the hospital said, "I made a rookie mistake. But I have no regrets whatsoever. ... Hopefully I'm raising even more awareness now" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/5).
