Change At The Top: Mark Miles To Take Over As Hulman & Co. CEO

Hulman & Co. today named Indianapolis Super Bowl Chair MARK MILES its new CEO. The move puts Miles, who spent 14 years as ATP CEO and chaired the '12 Super Bowl Host Committee, in charge of the company’s holdings that include Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IndyCar and the Clabber Girl baking powder brand. JEFF BELSKUS, who was named Hulman CEO last year, will relinquish that position but continue to serve as Hulman & Co. President, Indianapolis Motor Speedway President & CEO and interim IndyCar CEO. Both will remain members of the Hulman & Co. BOD. Hulman & Co. board member JACK SNYDER said, "The combined talent and experience these two possess will create a new responsive and energized management structure.” Miles said that he will not be hands on with day-to-day management, but believes he can use his experience overseeing the ATP to help the motorsports business. He added, “Like many Hoosiers, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IndyCar are a treasured parts of our heritage. ... We have a remarkable opportunity with a remarkable, global brand. That’s why when I was approached by the board ... they had my attention immediately.” Miles said that the current strategy review of Hulman & Co.’s business by Boston Consulting Group “will sharpen our strategy and focus” and make it clear how they can grow the sport and business in the future. Miles reiterated that the IndyCar Series is not for sale. He added, “We think it’s so important that the most powerful event on the schedule and the series are marketed, promoted ... together.” Miles grew up in Indiana and graduated from Wabash College. He most recently served as CEO of Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, Inc., a regional non-profit. He lives in Indianapolis. Belskus has been with Hulman & Co. for 25 years.

FREEING UP BELSKUS: Belskus said that Miles focusing on Hulman & Co.'s broader issues will free him up to focus on the speedway and IndyCar Series. He added, “I’ve spent a lot of time the last three weeks engaging and working with team owners, promoters and sponsors. We have a lot of good things ahead of us. The plan for 2013, a lot of it has been launched already with our schedule, but we have other issues and things we need to deal with and in the weeks to come we’ll be providing clarity on things like Lotus.”
