Remember This: MLB Rangers To Play Exhibition Games At Alamodome In San Antonio

MLB Rangers and Triple-A PCL Round Rock Express officials are "slated to announce Friday" a deal with San Antonio to "play exhibition games on a Friday and Saturday in March" at the Alamodome, according to Josh Baugh of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. The officials are “expected to say which team will play against the Rangers as well as unveil a plan for the field inside the dome.” Express President & CEO Reid Ryan, the son of Rangers President Nolan Ryan, said the exhibition games would be a “special event at a great venue.” But he said the Alamodome “wouldn't be a venue you could play an entire season in.” Baugh writes the dome “wasn't built to hold a baseball field,” as it is “longer than it is wide.” Reid Ryan said that he and his father have “discussed exhibition games in the dome for a long while." He said, “It's going to be an opportunity to expand the Rangers' brand and pioneer something new in the state of Texas.” Baugh writes the series also will “likely rekindle a widespread desire to attract another major-league team to the Alamo City -- baseball, football or some other sport” (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 11/14).
