West Virginia Univ. AD Oliver Luck Gets Contract Extension Through '17

West Virginia Univ. AD Oliver Luck has “agreed to a contract extension” through '17 after "rumors of interest from other schools and organizations had swirled within the past year," according to Jenn Menendez of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. The school announced that Luck will earn $550,000 in salary with a "performance bonus capped at $150,000 per year,” as well as “retention incentives for fulfilling particular terms of the contract.” Luck was in the third year of his "original five-year contract" that started June 9, 2010. The new five-year agreement is effective today. Luck in the past year has guided WVU “through a major transition” from the Big East conference to the Big 12. WVU President Jim Clements said that Luck has “raised more than $22.7 million for the university in the past year, the best fundraising year in the department's history.” Luck also is “overseeing facility improvements.” Clements said, "I think he's one of the best ADs in the country, if not the best. Nationally, his salary is competitive" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 10/13).
