Ryder Cup Tickets In High Demand With Medinah Hosting Competition For First Time

The Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago is four weeks away, but passes to the competition “have become the hottest tickets in town,” according to a front-page piece by Jamie Sotonoff of the Illinois DAILY HERALD. Most tickets still available "are through charities and brokers at above face-value prices.” All that is left on RyderCup.com “is an $1,800 per person club package on Sunday, and the only ticket packages remaining at PGA-licensed Premier Golf (which include weekend passes and four-night hotel stays) start at $2,850.” Ryder Cup Tournament Dir Michael Belot said that there are “no plans to release any tickets at the last minute.” He added that fueling the demand is the fact the tournament "has never before been held in the Midwest and comes to the United States only every four years.” Sotonoff reports tickets are “a little less expensive on StubHub.com.” As of Monday, the website had “tickets to the practice rounds available for as low as $16, and day passes for the actual tournament starting at $270 per ticket.” StubHub Head of U.S. Communications Joellen Ferrer said that the pricing and available tickets “will likely change day-to-day, based on weather, golfer performance, and other last-minute factors” (Illinois DAILY HERALD, 8/28).
