Andy Roddick Plans To Open Youth Learning, Sports Center In Austin

Tennis player ANDY RODDICK through his foundation “plans to open a sports and learning center in East Austin to mentor youths in character and discipline,” according to Michael Barnes of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. Work is “under way at a wooded campus” that already is “home to KIPP Austin charter schools and the Kozmetsky Center for Child Protection.” Real estate developer MANNY FARAHANI “provided the 10,600-square-foot building and flat land for eight tennis courts.” The center “will not serve as an elite training facility,” and is “expected to open in 2013.” The center will “focus on developing life skills through sports, similar to the golf program First Tee of Greater Austin” (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATEMAN, 8/28).
