An excerpt of the book "Paterno," set for Aug. 21 release by author JOE POSNANSKI, appears in the latest issue of GQ magazine. Late Penn State Univ. football coach JOE PATERNO in the book tells his son JAY PATERNO on a phone call the day after he was fired by PSU, "My name. I have spent my whole life trying to make that name mean something. And now it's gone" (GQ, 9/12 issue).

THE RIGHT MAKES LEFT TURNS? Republican Presidential candidate MITT ROMNEY yesterday in Charlotte "addressed Medicare in remarks to a NASCAR-flavored fundraising audience." Romney was introdcued by NASCAR CEO BRIAN FRANCE, while other guests at the event included SMI Chair BRUTON SMITH, NASCAR driver KURT BUSCH, and NASCAR team Owners FELIX SABATES and RICK HENDRICK. The event "brought in a reported $1.5 million" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 8/16).

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING: Lakers F METTA WORLD PEACE and his 8-year-old daughter, DIAMOND, will appear on Nickelodeon's "YO GABBA GABBA" on Sunday (LATIMES.com, 8/15). Warner Bros. Animation and WWE Studios in '14 will release a direct-to-home video animated "SCOOBY-DOO" film featuring WWE Exec VP & GM VINCE MCMAHON and wrestlers TRIPLE H, JOHN CENA, KANE, THE MIZ, BRODUS CLAY, SANTINO MARELLA, SIN CARA and AJ (VARIETY.com, 8/15).

STARS IN THE PRESS BOX: MLB's new original content development, "EXPRESSED WRITTEN CONSENT,” recently featured actor TERRY CREWS calling a Dodgers game in L.A. The concept “brings non-traditional broadcasters into the booth,” and MLB.com will be “unveiling more of these original broadcasts over the next several weeks.” Future episodes will feature actor ERIC STONESTREET, comedian JAY MOHR, actor KEVIN POLLAK, journalists BILL and WILLIE GEIST, and reality TV personality NICOLE "SNOOKI" POLIZZI (MLB.com, 8/15).

COURT REPORT: Cleburne, Texas, resident JENNELLE CARRILLO "is suing the Cowboys and team owner JERRY JONES over third-degree burns she suffered on her buttocks after sitting on a black marble bench at Cowboys Stadium two years ago while waiting for the debut Blue & Silver scrimmage." A lawsuit filed last week in Tarrant County civil court indicated that Carrillo "was hospitalized and had to have skin grafts." She also "has suffered mental anguish, physical pain and disfigurement" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 8/16).

during Subway event

NAMES: Actor WILLIAM SHATNER will be featured in the music video for "At Fenway," by singer/songwriter BRIAN EVANS. The song is "the first tune about a ballpark to be licensed by Major League Baseball," and the video also will get MLB approval (BOSTONHERALD.com, 8/16)....Giants DE JUSTIN TUCK yesterday in N.Y. was "working with sponsor Subway and 250 sandwich artists to set a Guinness world record for 'Most Sandwiches Being Made Simultaneously'" (ESPN.com, 8/15)....NFL Films Producer KEVIN BUSHMAN is profiled in today's DESERET NEWS. Bushman, in his 15th year at NFL Films, "is the only BYU graduate among the 200 employees at NFL Films and the only Mormon he is aware of on staff" (DESERET NEWS, 8/16).
