RYU Names David Campisi Chair & CEO With Outlook On Wholesale

Apparel company Respect Your Universe (RYU) named The Sports Authority President, Chair & CEO DAVID CAMPISI Chair & CEO. Campisi during his tenure with The Sports Authority negotiated the long-term deal to acquire the naming rights for the Bronco’s stadium. He replaces CEO CHRISTOPHER MARTENS, who resigned yesterday (RYU). In Portland, Allan Brettman writes Campisi’s appointment “comes at a crucial period of growth for RYU.” Campisi said that RYU's “management, which has 10 employees in an office near the foot of Mississippi Avenue, would stay in Portland.” He said the company “is trying to build the wholesale side.” Campisi: “Candidly, that wasn't happening as quickly as the board wanted." RYU apparel and accessories currently are “available primarily through the company's online store, launched last August, as well as a small number of retailers.” The company “plans to expand distribution through high-end retailers -- Campisi named Nordstrom as a possibility -- as well as mixed-martial arts, sporting goods, menswear and sneaker boutiques and select department stores” (Portland OREGONIAN, 8/14).
