NBC Sports Network To Launch Highlights Show As Part Of Post-Olympics Programming

NBC Sports Group today announced a new morning highlights show that will premiere Aug. 13 on NBC Sports Network. The show, “The ‘Lights,” will be a 20-minute sports report airing highlights and scores from the previous night. It will run from 7:00-9:00am ET and will feature video clips, graphics and voiceovers to deliver scores and information. “The ‘Lights” will repeat every 20 minutes and will be updated as necessary. NBC Sports President of Programming Jon Miller said, “We think it’s going to be distinctive. We’re not going to have an anchor desk, we’re not going to have banter. It’s just going to be one highlight, scores and box scores after the other. It’s got a very strong, graphic presentation. It will have an easy menu so you can see what’s coming up.” “The ‘Lights” is the first highlights show for the network and is formatted to have limited commercial interruption. The launch is consistent in the way execs have been programming NBC Sports Network to include four categories: live events, news, original programming and talk. It will join a lineup of signature programming that includes “Sports Illustrated,” which debuts tonight, and “Caught Looking,” as well as the re-launch of “NBC SportsTalk” on Aug. 14. The program will launch NBC Sports Network’s post-Olympics programming schedule. “This is our first real foray to hit the news side of it,” Miller said.
