ESPN Inks 12-Year Extension For Rose Bowl Rights With Agreement Beginning In '15

ESPN has reached a 12-year extension with the Rose Bowl Game. The agreement begins in January '15 and includes rights to the Rose Bowl across ESPN's platforms through '26. Regardless of the post-season bowl rotation format, still to be determined, ESPN will have the rights to the Rose Bowl each year. The net will showcase the game on TV, ESPN Radio, ESPN Mobile TV and on smartphones, tablets, online and on Xbox Live via WatchESPN. Additionally, the net has secured rights to distribute the Rose Bowl on ESPN 3D and globally through ESPN Int'l (ESPN). College football writer Clay Travis on his Twitter feed wrote, "Playoff TV deal won't include Rose Bowl, clearly. Betting Champion's Bowl for Big 12, SEC also won't be included. ... By locking up the Rose Bowl didn't ESPN just buy two of the playoff semifinal games over next 12 years? I think so." The Detroit Free Press' Mark Snyder wrote, "Delany said the Rose Bowl would be relevant in playoff world. So even in the years it's not a semifinal, it still has a prime Jan. 1 spot." CBSSports.com's Bryan Fischer wrote, "I would be interested to see what provisions, if any, ESPN/Pac-12/Big Ten put in for pre/post game Rose Bowl coverage on BTN/Pac-12 Network."
