Yankees Likely To End StubHub Partnership Next Season, Could Put Cap On Tix Pricing

The Yankees will "likely be ending its relationship with ticket exchange StubHub next season," according to Josh Kosman of the N.Y. POST. The team will employ a "new ticketing system, perhaps on its own, in which it may restrict how many tickets fans can sell and how close to game time they can sell them." Sources said that the Yankees may also "charge fans less" than the 10% commission StubHub charges. The team, led by Managing General Partner & co-Chair Hal Steinbrenner, "blames eBay’s StubHub for declining attendance," which is off about 4% compared with this point last season. Ticket reseller Joe DeLaura said that he "believes the Yankees' putting a cap on pricing will not result in more fans buying tickets from the team." He said, "The Yankees need to adjust their ticket prices according to the demand to see their games. Since the demand is less than what it was a few years ago, they need to adjust down accordingly." He added that resellers will be "breaking even or losing a little money on Yankees tickets this year." DeLaura: “It’s not worth the effort" (N.Y. POST, 6/10).
