Red Sox See 745th Straight Regular-Season Sellout, Tops Trail Blazers Record

The Red Sox yesterday posted their 745th straight regular-season sellout at Fenway Park, passing the Trail Blazers for the longest regular-season streak in U.S. major league sports. The Red Sox, whose streak started in May '03, stands at 771 games when including the postseason. The Trail Blazers' streak, which extended from '77-95, included 744 regular-season games and 70 playoff games. Both teams trail the Single-A Dayton (Ohio) Dragons for the longest sellout streak for all of U.S. pro sports teams, with the Dragons' mark at 876 straight games and counting at Fifth Third Field. The Red Sox formally recognized the new sellout milestone within the ballpark, on NESN and on WEEI-AM. The veracity of the streak, however, remains an oft-discussed question within the Boston market. The club's no-show rate has spiked sharply in the last two weeks and is again tracking higher for the season to date. The Red Sox no-show rate through yesterday stood at 14.4%, compared to 13.3% at a similar point last year. The club, following customary industry practice, reports tickets distributed for its attendance figures as opposed to actual turnstile counts.
