ON THE PAYROLL: Federal documents indicated that Syracuse Univ. men's basketball coach JIM BOEHEIM was the school's top earner in '10, getting a 33% raise in his base salary and receiving total compensation of $1.9M. In Syracuse, Paul Riede notes most of Boeheim's base salary "was not paid directly by the university." Nearly two-thirds -- $1M -- was paid by IMG Worldwide, which "contracts with SU for the rights to market its sports teams through radio play-by-play programming, coaches' shows on radio and television, event marketing, game-day promotions, publications and Internet sponsorship, among other things." Another $194,000 of Boeheim's salary came from the Big Orange Basketball Camp. SU AD DARRYL GROSS earned $570,057 in '10 (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 5/21).

CHARITY STRIPE: Lions QB MATTHEW STAFFORD made the "winning bid of $15,000 on a Lions-Bears Monday night football package" that he donated to send a Univ. of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital patient and her family to the Oct. 22 game at Soldier Field (DETROIT NEWS, 5/21)....NFL Panthers Owner JERRY RICHARDSON is the honorary Chair of the Charlotte Observer Summer Camp Fund, which raises money to send children from low-income families throughout the Carolinas to day and overnight camps. Richardson said, "I'm not aware of anything ... that's more helpful to a young person than going to a camp" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/20)....Dolphins Owner STEPHEN ROSS Friday donated $1M to the capital campaign for the Perez Art Museum Miami, which is under construction (MIAMI HERALD, 5/19)....The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital yesterday held the third annual Run-Walk to Home Base, a 5.6-mile run to benefit the Home Base Program. The program provides clinical care and support services to veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
