Red Sox' Charles Steinberg Suing Dodgers For $1M In Back Pay

Red Sox Senior Advisor CHARLES STEINBERG is “still squabbling with his former employer, the L.A. Dodgers, which, he claims, owes him nearly $1 million in back pay,” according to Fee, Rapose & Johnson of the BOSTON HERALD. Steinberg was “making a whopping $850,000 a year” in ’09 as Dodgers Exec VP and “confidante to ousted team owner JAMIE MCCOURT.” His employment agreement stipulated that he was to make $950,000 in '10, $1M in '11 and $1.1M in '12. Steinberg then “landed a job as a special assistant” to MLB Commissioner BUD SELIG in March ‘10 at “a far lower salary" of $400,000 annually. In February he “resigned from the commish’s office to return to Fenway, where he’s making $460,000 a year.” Court papers state that the Dodgers “still owe Steinberg a total of $972,500.” But the Dodgers contend that “bankruptcy code caps the amount the team owes Steinberg at $775,349.” ROBERT SIEGFRIED, an attorney for outgoing Dodgers Owner FRANK MCCOURT, said, “The court has to decide how to apply the bankruptcy code to his particular situation” (BOSTON HERALD, 4/25).
