Mariners Offer Free Tickets To Make Up For Long Concession Lines At Home Opener

The Mariners are offering free tickets for home games in April or May, as well as a credit for concession stands for all fans who attended Opening Night on Friday, April 13. The offer is a make-good for fans who experienced long lines at concession stands during the game due to a failure of the software system that operates cash registers and processes credit cards at Safeco Field. Tickets will be offered for any Mariners home game in April or May, beginning today. There are 18 games fans can choose from. The locations will be in the same seating level as the guests' Opening Night tickets (Mariners). In Seattle, Nick Eaton noted most fans who purchased tickets to the home opener "should expect an email from the Mariners." Fans who are not in the team's e-mail system "can claim their free tickets by going to a Mariners Team Store or the Safeco Field Box Office, and showing proof of purchase or their ticket stub from Friday’s game" (SEATTLEPI.com, 4/17). SPORTSPRESS NORTHWEST notes some fans reported "waiting for more than an hour and missed three innings or more." The registers began failing "shortly after the gates opened, and by mid-game more than 200 of the 400 point-of-sale stands were a cash-only operation." Software engineers determined that the "only solution was a shutdown and re-boot, which resolved the problem by the eighth inning." Staff from the software provider, Micros, have been "doing a thorough review of the system since," and no problems "were reported Saturday or Sunday" (SPORTSPRESSNW.com, 4/18).
