An admitted insomniac, YES Network President & CEO TRACY DOLGIN's life is jam-packed with work, family and all things Yankees. But this weekend, he'll be celebrating his daughter’s birthday, perhaps making an appearance on the links and enjoying some family time.
DADDY DEAREST: I have two daughters who are in college. One of them, HANNAH, is a junior at Cornell and she is in Rome doing her semester abroad. … But every single day, I have a pact with my daughter Hannah and ISABEL is the same way, that they call me so I hear their loving voices. Isabel is also up at Cornell.
GET THE POPCORN READY: Isabel is on spring break so she has been visiting her grandparents down in Florida. I haven’t seen her. She is coming home on Friday and I’m taking her to go see, and this shows you how much I love my daughter Isabel, I’m taking her on Friday to see “THE HUNGER GAMES.” … It’s her birthday over the weekend so I’m going to take her on Sunday to our favorite restaurant in Westchester.
CHEERS TO YOU: I love to eat and I love to drink wine, collect wine. But we have one restaurant in Westchester owned by MARIO BATALI called Tarry Lodge which almost every weekend we go to. ... My daughter and her friend and my wife and I are going for a nice three-hour meal. I’m going to have a Gibson. A Gibson is a martini with onion, not olive. And we’re going to open up a really good bottle of wine. That’s going to be my Saturday night.
SUNDAY VICE: All my TV watching during the week either occurs on Sunday night or I’ve TiVoed it for Sunday night other than sports. I have a few shows that I’m addicted to. One of them just ended last Sunday, I’m heartbroken, which is “THE WALKING DEAD.” I love that show. But good news is “MAD MEN” is coming. ...and a show called, “BREAKING BAD.” I have my AMC shows and I also watch shows on Showtime or HBO. They just canceled “LUCK,” I’m really upset about that. … There’s too many of those shows, because they put them all against each other, so I watch TV from like eight at night until two in the morning because those are my vice shows.
BOOK CLUB ANYONE? I’m an absolutely voracious reader and I do that in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep. I love reading and there’s so many incredible books right now, I'm finishing “THE ART OF FIELDING.” Someone just gave me a book that they thought I would like because I love nonfiction also which came out a couple years ago. It’s called “POLIO.” It’s about life in the world when there was polio and my dad had polio when he was a kid. It’s fascinating, not just the cure, but the whole world when polio existed was just a different world.
DON’T TELL ME THE SCORE: I watch basically every game that we have on the air, so it depends on what season we’re in and my life sort of revolves around either watching the game live or if I have something I really got to do, I watch the game DVRed. If I’m watching the game DVRed my wife is usually ready to shoot me because, whoever we’re with, they know that I’m a Yankee fanatic, and they know that if anybody tells me what the score is of the game...Fisticuffs are up. It’s very difficult in the world of new media. It’s also very difficult because everybody in New York is a Yankee fanatic. There’s like seven Mets fans and 10 million Yankee fans so it’s really really tough. …Seventy five percent of the games I watch live. I’m one of those few people, everyone says nobody DVRs sports, I do it because A) it’s part of my job and B) I would probably would watch the game if I knew the score, but I wouldn’t enjoy it.
