Big South Conference Accepting Bids For Men's, Women's Basketball Tournament Host

The Big South Conference is "looking for a home for its men's and women's basketball tournaments" beginning in '13, according to the AP's Steve Reed. Commissioner Kyle Kallander said that the conference "sent inquires about two weeks ago to Big South schools and potential neutral site locations" such as Winston-Salem; Charlotte; Salem, Va.; Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Greenville, S.C. Kallander added that the goal is to "find the perfect mutual site for the men's and women's tournament for the next three years." The city would "play host to the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals." The preliminary games leading up to the quarterfinals "would still be played on campus sites." The women's tournament is currently held in High Point, N.C., but the men's tournament site is "determined annually based on the highest seed." Kallander said that "striking a three-year agreement is a necessity." The deadline for interested applicants to submit bids to host the tournament is April 15. Presidents of Big South schools "will award the tournament to a city in late May" (AP, 2/14).
