"SNL" Spoofs Scandal Around Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show

The latest episode of NBC's "SNL" included a sketch mocking the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show and rapper M.I.A. flipping off a camera. TARAN KILLAM portrayed PIERS MORGAN on his CNN talk show “Piers Morgan Tonight” and examined the halftime show. NASIM PEDRAD, playing M.I.A., said, “When MADONNA asked me to do the halftime show I was like, ‘Are you serious?! You want me to sing and dance while there’s injustice in the world.’ Then she offered me money and I said yes.” M.I.A. said she gave the finger to the camera because “I was raising awareness about how much I disliked what I had agreed to do. It’s like, ‘Guess what? I’m doing this show because I hate it!’” Morgan replied, “Very brave.” M.I.A. added, “I don’t see what the big whoop is, like people complaining about me giving the middle finger. Yet in one of the commercials a dog murdered a cat in cold-blood, then bribed his owner with a bag of Doritos. Where’s the outrage there?” KRISTIN WIIG portrayed Madonna and told Morgan, “That one-hit bitch tried to steal my thunder, Piers, but she couldn’t. That was still the greatest halftime show in history. It had everything a football fan could want: Dancing gladiators, muscular gay men in Greek togas and a black angel playing a harp.” Madonna said she “even threw a tribute to JANET JACKSON” as CEE-LO GREEN “was dressed as Janet Jackson’s boob.” Morgan: “His head was the nipple” ("SNL," NBC, 2/11).

BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIGGER CITY: Green appeared on NBC's "The Tonight Show" Friday, and host JAY LENO said, "Great halftime show. That was terrific! ... I had no idea you were going to be there. How does that come about?” Green: “We were definitely trying to keep it a surprise. It was under strict orders of Queen Madonna, we did not reveal the secret performance. We did a decent job at it.” Leno then showed a clip of Green on stage with Madonna during her performance of “Like A Prayer.” Leno asked about the robe Green was wearing, “What church is that choir robe affiliated with? I’m not familiar.” Green: “I was briefed about what the stage would be like. They needed measurements from a stylist about a choir robe. So I said, ‘Ah, I’ve got one already.’” Leno: “So you had that robe already?” Green: “I’ve got a few of them. I’ve got three” ("The Tonight Show," NBC, 2/10).
