Wasserman Media Group To Sign Andrew Luck For On-, Off-Field Representation

Stanford QB Andrew Luck, the likely No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, will be signing with Wasserman Media Group for exclusive representation on and off the field, sources said. As part of the agreement, Will Wilson, Luck's uncle and an NFLPA-certified agent, will join Wasserman after working as MLS/SUM Exec VP/International Business & Special Events for the past four years, sources said. Before that, Wilson held a number of exec positions in sports business, including being the former AFL Exec VP and former CART Exec VP. Wilson is the brother of Kathy Wilson Luck, Andrew's mother. A WMG official did not return calls for comment. Wilson is a longtime personal friend of WMG Chair & CEO Casey Wasserman and has been receiving advice from Wasserman about Luck’s career, said one source. Wasserman owned the former AFL L.A. Avengers and WMG is a major player in the representation of MLS players. Sources requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about Luck's representation. WMG represents several hundred athletes worldwide, but has not represented NFL players in the past. Wasserman has been involved in the effort for many years to bring an NFL team to L.A., but one source familiar with the rules said representation of Luck is not a conflict because Wasserman never intends to be a majority owner of an NFL club and his personal interests in bringing an NFL club to L.A. are separate from Wasserman as a corporate entity. While there have been a number of reports in recent months which had Luck signing with different prominent NFL player agents, sports business insiders have been saying for a while that he would take a non-traditional route when it came to his pro representation.
