Brian Cashman Joins Other Business Leaders In Sleeping Outside For Charity

Yankees Senior VP & GM BRIAN CASHMAN "agreed to sleep outdoors Thursday night along with more than 40 other business and community leaders in what was called 'The CEO Solidarity Sleepout,'" according to Anthony Rieber of NEWSDAY. Cashman sits on the BOD of Covenant House Int'l, the organization that organized the event (NEWSDAY.com, 11/18). Cashman "went to sleep last night after midnight in an alley outside the Covenant House Crisis Center on 41st Street in Manhattan." He was "among 48 leaders from the worlds of business, sports and entertainment that spent a cold night outside the shelter, which sees 20-25 new children, ages 15-20, come in every day." Cashman has been "involved with the charity since his friend from Catholic University, KEVIN RYAN, became president" of the organization in '09. The charity "assists roughly 50,000 children a year" (N.Y. POST, 11/18). Cashman was hoping that the Sleepout "would make people think about the plight of homeless youth" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/18). Several other sports execs took part in Thursday's event, including NBA Deputy Commissioner & COO ADAM SILVER, MSG Sports President SCOTT O'NEIL, Take-Two Interactive Chair STRAUSS ZELNICK and CAA Sports marketing exec PAUL DANFORTH. The event raised over $370,000 (THE DAILY).
