NFL Hires Little-Known Dauphin Media Group To Run New Monthly Magazine

The NFL has hired Dauphin Media Group, a "tiny Canadian publishing firm, which is in the process of vacating its Toronto offices for Los Angeles to run" the league's new monthly magazine, according to Keith Kelly of the N.Y. POST. Dauphin lists "just two magazines on its Web site -- and both have suspended publication." One of the two, Holmes Magazine, was "produced under a licensing deal with HGTV fix-it host Mike Holmes" and has halted publication. The other, Canadian Architecture & Design, is "no longer being produced." NFL Dir of Business Development for Digital Media Kevin LaForce said of DMG, "It's a small shop out of Canada. We did our diligence and we feel comfortable they can execute." He added that NFL Magazine, which "involves a licensing deal under which DMG pays a fee and shares ad revenue with the league, will fall under the same wing that produces the NFL Network and NFL.com" (N.Y. POST, 11/17). MINONLINE.com's Steve Cohn noted the magazine's Dec. 13  launch is "no accident, because it is typically Thanksgiving through the Super Bowl when football interest peaks." The "estimated opening print run is 300,000 and 400,000" (MINONLINE.com, 11/16).
