Perry Cooper Leaving NHL For Fashion Website Rue La La

Cooper is leaving NHL to reportedly
become CMO of Rue La La
NHL Senior VP/Digital Media PERRY COOPER has left the league after four years. Cooper could not be reached for comment, but a source familiar with him said he has joined the online invite-only fashion website Rue La La as CMO. Rue La La did not return calls for comment. Cooper joined the NHL in '07 as VP/Digital & Direct Marketing and helped evolve the league's streaming media services, particularly around its live, out-of-market subscription products. Formerly called Center Ice Online, the service was rebranded NHL GameCenter Live in '08. It matured from a broadband-only service to include multiple products on smartphones, tablets, as well as broadband devices such as Boxee and Roku during Cooper’s time with the NHL. Cooper also oversaw the league's digital and direct marketing strategy and e-commerce business, and ran the league’s Web analytics. “Perry was one of my first hires, and he was a big contributor to the growth that we’ve had over the last few years,” said NHL COO JOHN COLLINS. “We emphasized a desire to have more of a direct relationship with the fans, and Perry was the guy most responsible for creating and managing that through direct and digital marketing. We wish him well.” According to a league memo, NHL VP/Strategic Planning STEPHEN MCARDLE will be promoted to Senior VP/Business Development & Strategic Planning, and will assume Cooper’s responsibilities and oversee his staff on an interim basis. NHL Exec VP/Media Strategies & Distribution DAVID PROPER will also take on some of Cooper’s responsibilities, and will be promoted to Chief of Business Affairs.
