Goodell Interested In Adding Second Regular-Season Game In London

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is “interested in adding a second regular-season game in London and says the move will be discussed at the owners meetings this week,” according to John Wawrow of the AP. Goodell yesterday said, "It's been tremendously successful. Fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, and we want to build on that." He added that the league “was happy with the game it played in Mexico City in 2005 -- the first regular-season game outside the United States -- but noted the NFL is focusing on adding a regular-season game in England.” Goodell said that the Oct. 23 Bears-Buccaneers game at Wembley Stadium “is still not sold out, but attributed it to tickets not going on sale until after the lockout ended.” Goodell also is “happy with the ‘Bills In Toronto’ games in which Buffalo is in the fourth year of a five-year agreement to play eight games -- including five regular-season games -- at Rogers Centre.” Goodell yesterday prior to the Eagles-Bills game hosted a fan forum and said, "I really think right now our focus would be on making what we've done here with the Bills playing the one game -- and the preseason game every other year -- into Toronto successful" (AP, 10/9). Goodell said that the NFL “will do everything it can to keep their team in western New York.” He also “emphasized the need for constant improvements to Ralph Wilson Stadium.” Bills fans “pushed Goodell to explain the benefits of having their team play the series of games in Toronto at the Rogers Centre.” Goodell after the forum said that the game experience in Toronto “needs to be improved.” Brady notes “none of the five Bills games played to date at Toronto’s Rogers Centre have been sellouts” (THEGLOBEANDMAIL.com, 10/9). Goodell at the fan forum said, “I'm confident we're going to continue to be successful here in Western New York. And I know the team is already beginning negotiations on a longer-term lease, which is something we need to get done" (BUFFALO NEWS, 10/10).
