D'Backs Hope New Wi-Fi System Lures Younger Fans To Chase Field

D'Backs President & CEO Derrick Hall "hopes that a new and advanced wireless experience at Chase Field will draw younger fans to the ballpark and enhance their game-watching experience," according to Elvina Nawaguna-Clemente of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The D'Backs have "partnered with AT&T to take fans' game experience to a different level with a new Distributed Antenna System, or DAS, and free Wi-Fi access within the ballpark." The system "allows fans to order food from concession stands without leaving their seats." When the meal is ready, a text message "will notify fans to go pick it up, thereby avoiding waits at concession stands." The technology was in place for last month's MLB All-Star Game, but it was officially unveiled Thursday. The D'Backs also "have created an interactive website called Digital D-Backs that can be accessed only within the Chase Field wireless system." The site "gives fans access to statistics and highlights that they wouldn't get watching the game elsewhere." The team will post "reminders on the video board during the games for fans to turn on the Wi-Fi feature on their devices." Hall said, "We are constantly challenging ourselves to attract and connect with younger fans. They always love their iPhone and iPad and they always want to have access to it, and if they are able to take in a game here and still conduct their normal business or entertainment, which they can now do, I think that's a plus for us" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 8/12).
