Guitar Hero: James Dolan Debuts His Latest Song, "Fix The Knicks"

Knicks Owner JAMES DOLAN "debuted his new song 'Fix The Knicks' on July 27 at the Jones Beach Theatre on Long Island as the warmup act to ARETHA FRANKLIN," according to Marc Berman of the N.Y. POST. The rendition makes references to former Knicks President of Basketball Operations ISIAH THOMAS, current F CARMELO ANTHONY and the team's "swiss-cheese defense." An "audible groan could be heard from the Jones Beach crowd at the sound" of Thomas' name. Berman writes the song "was clearly meant as a parody," and Dolan was "poking fun with 'Fix the Knicks,' tapping into all the Knicks clichés relating to their foibles" (N.Y. POST, 8/5). CBSSPORTS.com's Matt Moore wrote, "Who knew James Dolan had a sense of humor? ... It's a pretty obviously tongue-in-cheek reference to all the claims that Dolan and Thomas are best-buds. While the song is pretty terrible, that's pretty amusing and a nice crack at the criticism" (CBSSPORTS.com, 8/4). The Wall Street Journal's Adam Thompson watched the performance and wrote on Twitter, "That's a looooooong 4:08." SBNation.com's Tom Ziller: "Brutal."

HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: In N.Y., Jorge Castillo reports Mets SS JOSE REYES' "continuing interest in music, never widely noted, has led to the release of a music video in which he has a starring role, a second song getting play on radio stations, a third song on the way and the creation of a record label called EL7 Music, in a nod to his uniform number." The five-minute music video for a song called "No hay amigo" -- translated to "There is No Friend" in English -- "was released on the Internet in July and had nearly 146,000 YouTube views as of Thursday." Reyes has "financed all of the label’s operations, including the music video, which took several months to complete" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/5).
