Franchise Notes

The Chargers on Thursday announced that they are "packaging tickets to their regular-season game" on Nov. 6 against the Packers with next week's preseason game against the Seahawks. ESPN.com's Bill Williamson noted there are "many reasons for this move." It makes "Green Bay fans (who travel in droves) think twice about buying tickets," because they "basically have to pay double for the game." Still, many Packers fans "will bite and the Chargers will get a nice preseason gate it may not otherwise enjoy." Williamson: "I don’t blame San Diego if it is trying to discourage Green Bay fans from coming to the match" (ESPN.com, 8/4).

CLOCK MANAGEMENT: A FLORIDA TIMES-UNION editorial states it is "time to get serious about the Jacksonville Jaguars -- not just their upcoming season but also their future in this city." Jaguars Senior VP/Sales & Marketing Mackey Weaver has indicated that "unless another 16,000 seats are sold, there probably will be blackouts" this season. Weaver said that "at least 8,000 more season tickets need to be sold." Then, perhaps, the "rest can be handled through group and individual game ticket sales." The editorial: "But time is running out" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 8/5).

SEAT'S TAKEN: YAHOO SPORTS' Greg Wyshynski reported the NHL Panthers have started a season-ticket seating section at BankAtlantic Center where "no visiting fans will be allowed to sit." Seats in the Florida Panthers Red Zone, located in sections 105-114 of the arena, start at $25 per game and include a "red Panthers fan pack as well as the chance to win a red 2012 Ford Focus" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 8/4).
