AEG President & CEO Tim Leiweke said that AEG officials have been meeting with NFL franchises about moving to the company's proposed downtown L.A. stadium “under the direction of league commissioner Roger Goodell,” according to Scott Reid of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. Leiweke first confirmed earlier this month that AEG has met with officials from the Chargers, Raiders, Rams, Vikings and Jaguars “about relocating to Farmers Field.” Leiweke on Monday said that “those discussions have been with Goodell's blessing.” Leiweke: "He's given us direction which teams we are allowed to talk to. We believe several teams aren't going to be able to get their stadiums built." AEG tomorrow will “present a new proposal to the Los Angeles City Council committee studying the stadium project that Leiweke said will reduce to below $300 million the amount of bonds required for the replacement of the Los Angeles Convention Center's West Hall.” Meanwhile, Leiweke said that AEG is “concerned that Majestic Realty, the group behind a rival NFL stadium in the City of Industry, will attempt to sue AEG under the California Environmental Quality Act.” Leiweke: "They're prepared to do so, we believe" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 6/28).
WAIT & SEE: In Minneapolis, Kaszuba & Olson note the Vikings “say their stadium proposal will be ready for inclusion in any state budget solution.” But the stadium legislation, despite “being released in early April, has yet to have a public hearing at the State Capitol.” The proposal, which features $650M “in public money, continues to be refined in private” (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 6/29).
