ESPN DALLAS' Calvin Watkins reported Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones "held preliminary discussions" with Golden Boy Promotions about Floyd Mayweather making his return to boxing at Cowboys Stadium. But with the NFL lockout ongoing, it "seems difficult for Jones to bring any event to his stadium as the schedule could change." As a result, Las Vegas' MGM Grand "most likely will get" Mayweather's Sept. 17 bout against Victor Ortiz. Watkins: "Despite Jones' effort to get Mayweather back in the ring inside Cowboys Stadium, it appears doubtful it'll happen here" (ESPNDALLAS.com, 6/7).

GRAND ENTRANCE: Kentucky Speedway GM Mark Simendinger "expects a capacity crowd of more than 100,000" for the July 9 Quaker State 400, the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the track. Simendinger said that "ticket sales have picked up since the speedway intensified its local and regional marketing efforts after Memorial Day." He added, "I'm very, very confident that we're going to be sold out" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 6/8).

ALL IN FAVOR?: On Long Island, Dan Janison cited sources as saying that with a "bond referendum to rebuild the Nassau Coliseum slated for Aug. 1, proponents were still preparing behind the scenes last week for a coordinated 'vote yes' drive." Sources expect allies of Islanders Owner Charles Wang and Nassau County Chief Exec Edward Mangano "to take part soon in an ad-hoc organization to push the $400-million borrowing proposal." Janison noted there is a dedicated page on Facebook that reads in part, "On August 1, vote YES for a new home for the New York Islanders." Islanders fans "from elsewhere are urged to persuade county voters to approve it" (NEWSDAY, 6/6).
