London Olympics Basketball Arena Could Feature Orange Exterior Lighting

The '12 London Olympics Basketball Arena “could become one of the most eye-catching venues at the Games after the Olympic Delivery Authority revealed plans to 'light up' the arena like the Allianz Arena" soccer stadium in Munich, according to Nick Pearce of the London TELEGRAPH. Richard Arnold, the Project Sponsor for the venue, said that talks had begun with LOCOG “on the feasibility of illuminating the white exterior using lighting software from inside.” He added that the “concept was inspired by the Allianz.” If LOCOG approves the plans, it is “expected the venue will be lit up orange to reflect the central colour scheme of the Games and that of a basketball.” The arena is “on the verge of completion, with the ODA confident of handing it over to LOCOG at the beginning of June” (London TELEGRAPH, 5/19).
