Are You Hot Or Not? NESN Signs On With TruMedia For Player Heat Maps
Published April 28, 2011
NESN has struck a short-term trial deal with TruMedia Networks to test the Massachusetts-based company's player-by-player heat maps, based on advanced statistical analytics, during game broadcasts. The RSN is exploring how best to deploy the technology, and is also searching for a presenting corporate sponsor for the element. The heat maps show hot and cold zones and historical tendencies for individual hitters and pitchers, and can be easily tailored to a nearly infinite amount of specific game and pitch-count situations. "We're always looking for ways to enhance the viewing experience for Red Sox fans," said Russ Kenn, NESN coordinating producer for Red Sox broadcasts. “TruMedia Networks' heat mapping technology not only enhances the viewing experiences but also provides brands an opportunity for unique in-game exposure."
