Yankees Accidentally Distribute File With Info On Season-Ticket Holders

The Yankees "accidentally distributed a file containing information on about 17,000 season-ticket accounts for non-premium seats," according to Kimberley Martin of NEWSDAY. The "information breach -- which included names, addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail addresses provided to the Yankees -- occurred Monday evening when an employee mistakenly attached an internal Yankees spreadsheet that listed certain ticket holder information." The team said that "no financial information or government identification numbers, such as Social Security numbers or birthdays, were included in the document." The Yankees added that they already have "sent out letters to ticket holders, even those who were not affected" (NEWSDAY, 4/28). CNBC's Erin Burnett said, "That's a real, real trove of information, though, names and seats. You can see where certain ticketholders sit" ("Squawk on the Street," CNBC, 4/28). The Yankees indicated that the file was "sent out to 'several hundred' ticket holders, but it wasn't clear if they were the same ones whose information was released" (N.Y. POST, 4/28). A team spokesperson said, "A mistake was made and we're being as transparent as we possibly can be. We've already taken steps to be sure it cannot and will not happen again" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/28).
