Competitor Group Debuting 10K Race In N.Y. Just Two Weeks Before N.Y. Marathon

The Competitor Group’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series will debut a 10K race in N.Y. in October. The event, tentatively titled the Rock ‘n’ Roll New York 10K, will be held in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on Oct. 22, two weeks before the '11 ING N.Y. Marathon, which is organized by the N.Y. Road Runners club. Registration for the new event costs $40. Competitor Group sources declined to say whether the company would pursue plans for a full marathon-distance race in N.Y. The Wall Street Journal reported in November that CGI in '09 unsuccessfully pitched city officials a proposal for holding a springtime marathon in the Bronx. Meanwhile, CGI also announced it has signed Power Balance performance bracelets as the presenting sponsor for the pre-race Health and Fitness expos at 16 of its events. Industry sources peg the single-year deal in the high six figures. Power Balance will begin its sponsorship at Saturday's Country Music Marathon and 1/2 Marathon in Nashville. Power Balance will be the presenting expo sponsor for other Rock ‘n’ Roll events in New Orleans, Dallas, San Diego, Seattle, Chicago, Virginia Beach, Philadelphia, San Jose, Denver, St. Louis, L.A., Savannah, San Antonio, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
