Univ. Of Arizona Receives $15.5M In Donations For Stadium Renovation

Univ. of Arizona AD Greg Byrne yesterday said that Arizona Stadium's north end zone construction "could begin as soon as January" after the school received "three donations to the project," according to Patrick Finley of the ARIZONA DAILY STAR. The structure "will house a club area, football offices, weight room, medical treatment center, lockers and cafeteria in about 80,000 interior square feet." Byrne yesterday announced an $11M gift from anonymous sources he called "longtime supporters of the athletic department and the university." UA also announced a $2.5M donation from local auto dealer Jim Click. Jeff and Sharon Stevens, who in '09 gave $10M toward the proposed multi-story structure, added $2M yesterday. UA also received another $1.5M, "bringing the donation total to $27 million for the $72.3 million upgrade." Drawings from Heery Int'l, shown yesterday, "feature glass and copper accents" at the facility. Finley notes UA will "present a naming-rights proposal for the structure -- not stadium -- to an on-campus committee" (ARIZONA DAILY STAR, 4/26).
