Greenberg Happy For Experience In MLB Despite Rangers Ouster

Former MLB Rangers Managing General Partner & CEO Chuck Greenberg yesterday said that he is "still thankful for the experience" in MLB despite "how short and seemingly ill-fated" his involvement was, according to Alan Blondin of the Myrtle Beach SUN NEWS. Greenberg resigned from the Rangers "just seven months" after he was involved with the purchase of the team, and he "will no longer have any ownership interest" in the franchise. Discord between Greenberg and the team's "primary investors and baseball operations staff ... reportedly led to Greenberg's sudden departure." But Greenberg, speaking before a Rangers exhibition game against Coastal Carolina Univ. at Myrtle Beach's BB&T Coastal Field, said, "I'm not soured by it at all. It was a heck of an experience -- the circumstances and processes of acquiring the team, the playoff run, the progress we made on and off the field during the offseason. It was very fulfilling and I look back with a lot of great memories." Greenberg added, "The whole subject of how, when and who, I don't think there's any value in getting into it. What's done is done. I'm looking forward to whatever the future brings for me." Greenberg "wouldn't say if his separation from the team is complete or not." But he said that a "complete divesting from the team will be the end result." Greenberg added that he is "not actively exploring any more opportunities in major league baseball, but he's not ruling it out in the future, either" (Myrtle Beach SUN NEWS, 3/30). In Ft. Worth, Jeff Wilson cites sources as saying that Greenberg "received a settlement of" $20-25M from the Rangers (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/30).

OFFSEASON IMPROVEMENTS: In Ft. Worth, Susan Schrock reports the Rangers yesterday "unveiled some Texas-sized improvements" at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. A 5,042-square-foot video board is "part of $13 million in upgrades the Rangers made to the 17-year-old ballpark" in the offseason. Other changes include an "overhaul of the sound system, installation of 800 high-definition televisions throughout the ballpark and a 725-square-foot HD video board over center field that will provide updated scores and statistics." Rangers VP/In-Park Entertainment Chuck Morgan said that while the larger boards "will give fans a clearer view of replays, they will not show live footage of the game as the ones at Cowboys Stadium do" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/30).
