AIR TIME: ESPN did not carry last week’s announcement that high school basketball player Patrick Patterson was going to the Univ. of Kentucky, and in Lexington, Jerry Tipton reported the net “offered to televise the player's announcement if he would reveal the choice a half hour before the 3:45 p.m. news conference,” which Patterson declined (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 5/20). ESPN VP/PR Josh Krulewitz said, “We did have conversations about televising the announcement, but we never discussed any arrangement where we’d televise his press conference if they gave us the news beforehand.” Krulewitz added that exclusivity “can certainly be part of the equation when we consider coverage plans –- as all news entities do” (USA TODAY, 5/23).

WEB JUNK: Red Sox P Curt Schilling said that he “has already been approached by major league players interested in starting up their own versions” of his 38pitches.com blog. Schilling: “I’m in the process of working with athletes in other professional sports to put together some things” (BOSTON HERALD, 5/23).
