IN A "FUNK," COLANGELO PONDERING HIS FUTURE IN SPORTS BIZ

Suns Chair & D'Backs Managing General Partner Jerry
Colangelo is "tired," as the "criticism and the apathy have
worn him down," according to Dan Bickley of the ARIZONA
REPUBLIC. Colangelo: "I'm in a funk right now." Asked if
he was considering getting out of the sports business,
Colangelo said, "I'm pondering things. I'm not going beyond
(pondering), but this is a time of deep reflection. I'm not
sure what the next thing is. I don't think I've ever felt
like this before. ... I've been pounding away here for 35
years, trying to do the right things. And the bottom line
is, I'm a hell of a lot more respected in other places than
I am here." Bickley: "He is disillusioned with the changing
tone of sports and the yapping terriers in the media. He
has grown weary of the mess that is [MLB]. He is tired of
serving as a lightning rod of controversy, questioned for
this, vilified for that." Colangelo: "I'm at the point
where I'm thinking, 'How much of it is left for me and how
rewarding is it?' Given the shots and their intensity and
where this whole business is going, it makes you sit down
and think. Who needs that?" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 12/20).
