Redskins execs "took offense" at Steelers radio
broadcaster Myron Cope's reference to the team as the
"Redfaces" during Saturday's 24-3 loss in Pittsburgh,
according to Liz Clarke of the WASHINGTON POST. Redskins
President Steve Baldacci was told of Cope's reference during
the game and sent a team rep to the radio booth, "where
Cope's producer, Greg Wiley, was asked to have Cope stop
calling" the team "Redfaces." Cope, after the request to
stop using the name, said, "If that boy billionaire (Owner
Daniel Snyder) thinks he can shut me up, he should stick his
head in a can of paint." Redskins Senior VP/PR Karl Swanson
said that Baldacci "objected to the reference for two
reasons: Taste and trademark rights." Swanson: "Our initial
response was, 'Gee, is that sportsmanlike to make fun of us
because we are losing?'" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/19).
LOOKING FOR REDSKINS TICKETS? HERE YOU GO: In DC, Eric
Fisher writes that the Redskins' "disastrous season has
resulted in a ticket fire sale" for the team's final home
game "unprecedented" since team moved to FedEx Field.
Fisher writes that seats with a face value of $40-75 each
"can be found for less than" $30 "through area ticket
brokers" and eBay. But Fisher reports, "conversely,
interest in the secondary ticket market" for the Ravens "is
reaching record levels" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 12/19).
