WHITE SOX ANNOUNCE HIRING OF DENNIS GILBERT TO FRONT OFFICE

In "what is believed to be a baseball first -- a former
agent working for an owner," White Sox Chair JERRY REINSDORF
has hired former agent DENNIS GILBERT as his Special
Assistant (Toni Ginnetti, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 11/29).
BLOOMBERG's Jerry Crasnick noted that Gilbert will "assist
the White Sox in contract negotiations and be a consultant
on other player-related issues." Gilbert retired from his
Beverly Hills Sports Council as an agent in '98, and has
spent the last two years running his CA-based insurance
company, and helping to build a ballpark in L.A. that will
be the home field for MLB's RBI program, which is dedicated
to reviving baseball in inner cities (BLOOMBERG, 11/28). In
IL, Joe Cowley writes that Gilbert was "respected as one of
the top agents" in MLB before his retirement (DAILY
SOUTHTOWN, 11/29). Meanwhile, the White Sox named RICK HAHN
as Dir of Major-League Administration. Hahn had been at CA-
based Steinberg, Moorad & Dunn (BLOOMBERG, 11/28).
