LET THE BIDDING BEGIN FOR MLS EVENTS: MLS Exec VP Paul
Phipps said that Dallas "is among the cities" bidding to
host the MLS Cup and All-Star games the next two seasons.
Other cities "in the running" include K.C., Boston and L.A.,
"depending on the status of a new stadium that has been
proposed" for the Galaxy. Phipps said that Dallas "probably
has a better shot at one of the events" in 2002. Bachelor
adds that Dallas "is bidding for all four events in hopes of
landing one" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 11/28).
NOTES: In Phoenix, Pedro Gomez examines criticism of
the XFL for using its cheerleaders to market the league, and
writes, "As for the sexploitation of the cheerleaders, so
what? It's the same thing that's been going on in the NFL
for decades. The only difference is the XFL is upfront
about the way it wants to present its league" (AZ REPUBLIC,

coach Scotty Bowman's efforts as the "prime force in the
movement to establish" a NHL Coaches Association. The group
"plans to represent the coaches in potential business
dealings other than collective bargaining" as well as
