NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Sharks radio broadcaster DAN RUSANOWSKY is in guarded
     but stable condition following a two-car accident near San
     Jose Arena on Saturday afternoon.  He suffered a "broken
     femur, fractured pelvis, ruptured diaphragm and a punctured
     lung as well as a possible concussion" in the crash. 
     Rusanowsky has been the team's play-by-play broadcaster
     since '91.  Sharks President GREG JOHNSON visited Rusanowsky
     and said that the "prognosis was positive" (MERCURY NEWS,
     11/26)....OSCAR DE LA HOYA made his singing network TV debut
     on NBC's "Tonight Show" and sang a song from his new self-
     titled CD.  Leno, on De La Hoya fighting other pop singers:
     "I'd like to see that.  Maybe have a tagteam with [Enrique]
     Iglesias and Ricky Martin, you take out the two of them"
     ("Tonight Show," NBC, 11/24)....Actor ROGER MOORE will host
     the second annual WORLD SPORTS AWARDS on January 16 in
     London.  The awards will honor athletes in nine categories. 
     The World Sports Awards "is negotiating with networks for a
     TV broadcast" (DAILY VARIETY, 11/27). ...CBS Sports' DICK
     ENBERG has a new book out published by Andrews McMeel, "DICK
     ENBERG'S HUMOROUS QUOTES FOR ALL OCCASIONS" (USA TODAY,
     11/27)....Filmmaker DANNY DEVITO wants to hire figure staker
     ELVIS STOJKO to do choreography for DeVito's next film
     (GLOBE & MAIL, 11/25)....Former NBAer JOHN SALLEY appears in
     an HBO special on sex and sports debuting on December 20,
     and "suggested an openly gay player would face 'worse'
     criticism than Jackie Robinson did in breaking baseball's
     color line" (USA TODAY, 11/27)....NBC's Jay Leno: "Did you
     see the LAKERS on the news serving hot meals to the less
     fortunate -- the CLIPPERS?" ("Tonight Show," NBC, 11/24).
     ....N.Y. Daily News' MIKE LUPICA, on his new book, "BUMP &
     RUN," about how sports has become corrupted: "I've thought
     for a long time that there's more action going on up in the
     luxury boxes than there is down on the field, especially in
     the [NFL] because owning a football team has become the
     greatest rich boy toy of them all" (FSN, 11/26)....Last
     night's broadcast of Fox's "KING OF THE HILL" featured the
     voices of Fox Sports' TERRY BRADSHAW, JAMES BROWN and HOWIE
     LONG ("King of the Hill," Fox, 11/26).
