          Friday's poll question on ESPN.com asked, "Which [pro
     sports] owner irritates you the most."  The results showed
     36.6% chose Cowboys Owner JERRY JONES; 22.7% Yankees Owner
     GEORGE STEINBRENNER; 13.4% Redskins Owner DANIEL SNYDER;
     9.0% Braves/Hawks/Trashers Owner TED TURNER; 7.3% Orioles
     Owner PETER ANGELOS; 6.5% Rams Owner GEORGIA FRONTIERE; 2.1%
     Mavs Owner MARK CUBAN; and 2.0% 76ers President PAT CROCE
     ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 11/17)....Multiple reports over the
     weekend had U.S. Davis Cup Captain JOHN MCENROE resigning.
     In DC, Rachel Alexander reports that McEnroe met with USTA
     President JUDY LEVERING recently to discuss his future, but
     has not made a "final decision" yet (WASHINGTON POST,
     11/19).  Levering denied that McEnroe has quit: "There is
     nothing that I can comment on there.  John and the USTA are
     great.  There is nothing there that is the least bit
     controversial at all" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/19)....Edmonton
     Journal NHL writer JIM MATHESON, on being inducted into the
     Hockey Hall of Fame: "I guess I spelled WAYNE GRETZKY's name
     often enough to get here.  Put it this way: If I'd been
     covering the Washington Capitals for the last 30 years, I
     don't think I'd have got in the door" (Mult., 11/19)....In
     VA, Rea McLeroy wrote that DALE and KELLY JARRETT will
     present a $33,000 check to the SUSAN G. KOMEN BREAST CANCER
     FOUNDATION (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 11/18). ...Attorneys
     for the estate of the late GREG MOORE have filed a wrongful
     death suit against ISC and CART in San Bernardino Co., (CA)
     Superior Court (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 11/18)....BOYZ II
     MEN and JESSICA SIMPSON will perform during the halftimes of
     the Thanksgiving Day NFL games in Detroit and Dallas,
     respectively (NFL)....Royals Owner DAVID GLASS was presented
     the CIVIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD at the Jewish Community Center
     10th Anniversary Gala Sportsnite in K.C. Saturday night
     (K.C. STAR, 11/19)....NBC's Jay Leno, on VP AL GORE and his
     family playing touch football: "They're pretty good.  In
     fact, this past weekend they beat the SAN DIEGO CHARGERS"
     ("Tonight Show," NBC, 11/17).
